Vilnius recovers from storm: street conditions improve, cleanup continues

Vilnius is rapidly recovering after a powerful storm unleashed heavy rainfall, causing significant flooding and disruption across the city. Municipal services, including "Grinda," have been working tirelessly to clear debris and address the aftermath.

Just yesterday we threw all our forces into removing the consequences of the storm, and today we continue our work.

In a matter of hours, the Vilnius region received approximately 35 millimeters of rain, leading to numerous reports of flooded streets, open wells, blocked storm drains, and inundated parking lots. "Grinda" reported receiving 116 notifications regarding these issues. The agency stated that its teams are working at maximum capacity to manage remaining floodwaters and remove fallen trees. Major flooding was recorded in areas such as the Western Bypass, Geležinio Vilko Street, Žalgirio Street, and Dangeručio Street.

AB "Kelių priežiūra" (Road Maintenance) brigades also responded swiftly to the storm's impact on state roads. Patrols were intensified, and crews were dispatched to critical locations as water levels rose and obstacles appeared. The road maintenance teams have been working continuously since the storm hit to ensure roadways are clear and safe.
