Storms Approaching Poland; IMGW Issues Warnings for Several Voivodeships

Poland is bracing for thunderstorms as the Polish Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has issued storm warnings for multiple regions. The alerts, primarily for the lowest first-degree warning on a three-tier scale, are in effect from Wednesday afternoon until 9 p.m. local time.

The affected areas include the entire opolskie, śląskie, małopolskie, and podkarpackie voivodeships. Warnings also extend to parts of zachodniopomorskie, wielkopolskie, dolnośląskie, łódzkie, and świętokrzyskie voivodeships, with specific districts listed.

Residents can expect thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall, potentially reaching 20-35 millimeters, and wind gusts up to 85 km/h. Hail is also a possibility in some localized areas. Wednesday's weather across much of Poland will be characterized by considerable cloud cover, with intermittent rain and thunderstorms moving in from the southwest. Temperatures are expected to range from 14 degrees Celsius in the Sudeten Foothills to 25 degrees Celsius in most of the country, and up to 27 degrees Celsius in the south.

Overnight into Thursday, cloudiness will persist, though some clear spells are anticipated, particularly in the northeast and later in the southwest. Light rain and thunderstorms may continue in areas from Pomerania, through central Poland, to Małopolska, Podkarpacie, and Lubelszczyzna, with up to 20 mm of rain possible. Overnight temperatures will be between 8 degrees Celsius in the west and 15 degrees Celsius in the southeast.
