Students Demand Unbiased Corruption Probe at Attorney General's Office

Students rallied outside the Attorney General's Office in Jakarta, demanding a thorough and unbiased investigation into alleged corruption and money laundering cases. The protest, organized by an alliance of Muhammadiyah higher education institutions, specifically targeted the handling of a case linked to the former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah.

Demonstrators chanted slogans and held banners, urging authorities to prosecute the case without favoritism. They also called for a comprehensive review of law enforcement agencies' performance and a renewed commitment from the government to eradicate corruption. The protest saw some tense moments as participants attempted to approach the main gate, prompting security personnel to maintain order and remind the crowd to adhere to regulations.

Security forces, comprising over 700 personnel from various police units, formed a barricade to manage the crowd and ensure the demonstration proceeded peacefully. Despite the security presence, some protesters engaged in symbolic acts of defiance, burning banners and posters to express their dissatisfaction with the alleged corruption and the perceived lack of transparency in its investigation.

The students reiterated their demands for professional, transparent, and impartial handling of corruption allegations. They stressed that evaluating the performance of law enforcement institutions is crucial for rebuilding public trust in the justice system. The protest highlighted ongoing public concern regarding corruption and the integrity of legal processes in Indonesia.
