Students Take Control of School Bus After Driver Collapses, Averting Tragedy

In a display of remarkable courage and quick thinking, a group of young students averted a potential tragedy on a school bus in Mississippi. The dramatic events unfolded when the bus driver, a 46-year-old woman, experienced a severe asthma attack and lost consciousness while navigating a route with approximately 40 students aboard.

As the bus began to veer off course, 12-year-old Jackson Casnave, seated behind the driver, instinctively grabbed the steering wheel. Simultaneously, his 12-year-old classmate, Darrius Clark, reached for the brake pedal. Their coordinated actions, executed within moments of the driver's incapacitation, were crucial in regaining control of the vehicle and bringing it to a safe stop on a median.

Meanwhile, Kayleigh Clark, Darrius's 13-year-old sister, rushed to the front of the bus to call 911. Amidst the general agitation, other students also stepped up. Destiny Cornelius administered the driver's medication, recognizing the nebulizer, while McKenzy Finch provided comfort by supporting the driver's head and retrieving her phone to contact the school district's transportation team.

School authorities have lauded the students' swift and decisive actions. "What they did required courage.
