Suspects in Pekanbaru Grandmother Murder Arrested

Riau Regional Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan confirmed the successful apprehension of suspects involved in the brutal murder of an elderly woman in Pekanbaru. The victim, identified as 60-year-old Dumaris Boru Sitio, was found deceased in her residence in the Rumbai district on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, following a violent assault.

He shared a photo of one of the suspects, whose leg was bandaged, receiving treatment in a hospital.

Information disseminated through the official Instagram account of the Riau Regional Police indicates that a total of four individuals have been arrested. Two were apprehended in Aceh Tengah, while the other two were captured in Binjai, North Sumatra. Inspector General Heryawan announced that comprehensive details regarding the arrests would be disclosed during a press conference scheduled for Sunday, May 3, 2026, by the Pekanbaru Police.

The horrific incident came to light when the victim's husband, Salmon Meha, returned home around 11:00 AM WIB on Wednesday to find his wife lifeless. Earlier that day, around 8:00 AM WIB, he had invited her to go out, but she declined. CCTV footage revealed a male perpetrator striking the victim with a wooden plank and disabling the security camera. Prior to the assault, a female suspect had entered the house and engaged in conversation with the victim before the male suspect entered and attacked her. Preliminary findings suggest the victim died from blunt force trauma to the head. The perpetrators also fled with valuables, including jewelry, a passport, foreign currency, and mobile phones. The case is being handled by the Rumbai Police, with assistance from the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation of the Riau Regional Police.
