Tajik Serviceman Drowns After Jumping from Bridge

Tragedy has struck the Rudaki district of Tajikistan, where Shahboz Jonmahmadzoda, a 23-year-old serviceman of the Ministry of Defense, lost his life after jumping into the Kofarnihon River. Jonmahmadzoda, who had been serving in the mine-engineering battalion for eight months, reportedly handed his mobile phone to a woman on the bridge before leaping into the water. Witnesses watched as he swam for several hundred meters before disappearing beneath the surface.

The woman thought he handed her the phone for a photo, and when she saw what was happening, she was very frightened. He said nothing to her. Other passersby were also witnesses. He swam about 500-600 meters in the water but then disappeared under water.

His relatives, who are now desperately searching for his body with the help of local residents, are struggling to comprehend the events leading to this tragic incident. They report that Jonmahmadzoda was on a 10-day leave and was due to return to duty on April 28. He had apparently expressed dissatisfaction with service conditions and complained of kidney pain, mentioning plans to seek medical examination. However, his family insists that nothing foreshadowed such a drastic action.
