Teenager arrested after shooting at house in Montevideo; separate homicide investigated

Police in Montevideo have arrested a 17-year-old suspect in connection with a shooting incident in the Marconi neighborhood. The teenager allegedly fired multiple shots at a residence located at the intersection of Tomas Burgueño and Itacumbú while riding a bicycle.

According to local reports, officers from the 12th and 17th precincts, part of the "Atenea" operation, apprehended the minor a few blocks from the scene after receiving an alert from the Unified Command Center. The suspect reportedly attempted to flee upon noticing the police presence. During the arrest, some local residents reportedly threw stones at the officers, attempting to obstruct the detention.

Neighbors indicated that this was the fourth time the specific house had been targeted in shooting incidents. The investigation into the Marconi shooting is ongoing.

In a separate incident, police in Rocha are investigating the homicide of a 53-year-old man in the city of Chuy. The victim, identified as Oscar Omar Orgiola Estevez, was shot multiple times at his home on Sunday evening. Preliminary reports suggest two individuals approached his house on a motorcycle, and after he opened the door, they fired at him. He attempted to flee but was pursued and shot again. He later died at the local hospital.

During a search of the victim's home, police discovered cocaine, a precision scale, a .38 caliber firearm, ammunition, and cash. The victim had a prior criminal record for homicide in 2018. Authorities are reviewing security camera footage to identify the attackers. Additionally, a stolen red Peugeot 106, found with bullet impacts and bloodstains near the border with Brazil, is being examined for its potential connection to the homicide.
