Thessaloniki: Mother arrested after 5-year-old throws objects from balcony

Thessaloniki – A disturbing incident unfolded in Thessaloniki where a 5-year-old boy was found throwing various objects from the balcony of a 6th-floor apartment, leading to the arrest of his mother.

Authorities were alerted when the child, who was alone in the apartment, began launching items such as stones, a vacuum cleaner, and a bucket with a mop onto the street below. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of these actions. Police gained access to the apartment from a neighboring residence, as the main door was locked, and managed to stop the child's dangerous behavior.

Upon returning home, the mother was taken to the police station and subsequently arrested on charges of endangering a minor. She explained to officers that she had left the child unattended for a short period to attend a doctor's appointment, expecting a nanny to arrive shortly thereafter. The nanny, however, never showed up.

In accordance with a prosecutor's order, the child has been placed under the temporary care of a trusted friend or relative while the legal proceedings against the mother are ongoing. This case highlights the critical importance of adequate childcare and the severe consequences when such arrangements fail, even for seemingly brief absences.
