Thousands evacuated in Washington due to wildfires

Wildfires raging in Washington state have devastated communities, destroying approximately 600 homes and other buildings and forcing the evacuation of around 5,000 residences. The fires are concentrated in areas surrounding Spokane, the state's second-largest city.

Over 21 square kilometers have been scorched in Washington alone. The blazes, attributed to lightning strikes, have also spread to neighboring Oregon and Idaho, where an additional 1,360 square kilometers are burning.

While no lives have been lost, authorities report that over 600 homes and 800 additional structures remain threatened by the advancing flames. The region is bracing for continued hot and dry weather, with temperatures expected to exceed 32 degrees Celsius (90 degrees Fahrenheit) next week, exacerbating the wildfire risk.

The affected areas are largely agricultural lands, highlighting the significant impact on the region's economy and livelihoods.
