Three Charged in Fatal Examilia Factory Explosion; Court Appearance Set for Friday

Three people arrested in connection with a fatal explosion and fire at a vinegar factory in Examilia, Corinthia, have been granted an extension to present their defense. The owner, supervisor, and safety technician are scheduled to appear before an investigator on Friday, July 31.

The trio faces charges related to the deadly incident that occurred on Monday afternoon. They were brought before the Corinth court on Tuesday, July 28. According to sources, all three maintain that all necessary safety measures were implemented and that the work conducted at the facility adhered to established guidelines and safety protocols.

Meanwhile, investigators from the Arson Crimes Directorate are continuing their preliminary inquiry. They are collecting evidence from the accident site, with a particular focus on the plant's piping and machinery. Witness testimonies from employees are also being gathered to ascertain how the explosion originated and how the fire spread so rapidly.

The explosion claimed the life of a 67-year-old worker and left a 37-year-old colleague with minor injuries. Initial assessments by the Hellenic Fire Service's investigative department suggest the explosion may have been triggered during welding operations near a liquefied petroleum gas supply. The subsequent fire quickly engulfed and completely destroyed the production unit. The precise circumstances of the accident are expected to be clarified through the ongoing investigation and the defendants' statements.
