Trial continues for defendants accused of attacking Ibar-Lepenac canal

Three defendants, Dragiša Vikentijević, Jovan Vikentijević, and Igor Dimović, appeared in Pristina Basic Court under heavy security for their alleged role in an attack on the Ibar-Lepenac canal in Zubin Potok.

During the previous hearing on July 9, all three pleaded not guilty. According to the indictment filed by the Special Prosecution Office, the Vikentijević brothers, along with several unidentified individuals, allegedly placed approximately 20 kilograms of explosives inside the canal on November 29, 2024. The prosecution claims they detonated the device using a bag tied to a concrete pillar with a rope.

The explosion reportedly caused severe damage to the canal's concrete structure. This resulted in a disruption of the drinking water supply to South and North Mitrovica, threatened electricity production, and inflicted material damage amounting to 377,000 euros on the Ibar-Lepenac company.

Prosecutors are charging the defendants with endangering the constitutional order through the destruction or damage of public facilities, in connection with the "commission of a terrorist act." The incident on November 29, 2024, at the canal, which is crucial for supplying drinking water and cooling thermal power plants, underscores the potential for significant disruption and damage to critical infrastructure.
