Three men to face court after Apprentice Boys parade in Derry

Three men are scheduled to appear in court after arrests were made during the annual Apprentice Boys of Derry parade in Northern Ireland. The event, which commemorated the Relief of Derry, saw an estimated participation of over 13,000 people and 127 bands.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) managed a significant public safety operation for the parade. While some arrests were not directly linked to the parade itself, ongoing inquiries aim to clarify their connection. A 47-year-old man was charged under the Terrorism Act 2000 for wearing clothing associated with a proscribed organization. He is due to appear before Derry Magistrates’ Court on September 2nd.

Additionally, a 57-year-old man faces charges of behavior likely to cause a breach of the peace and a provocative act, following an incident in the Duke Street area. He will also appear in court on September 2nd. Another man, aged 39, was arrested and charged with common assault, disorderly behavior, and resisting police after an incident on Limavady Road. His court date is set for Monday.

As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

Area commander Chief Superintendent Gillian Kearney stated that all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service. Separately, a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm following an altercation on Spencer Road. He has been released on police bail pending further investigation.

PSNI is also appealing for information regarding criminal damage to a poppy wreath laid at the city's war memorial. The incident, treated as a sectarian hate crime, occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Police are asking anyone with information or footage to report it via their witness appeal form, quoting reference number 1552 of 08/09/26, or by calling 101.
