Tinubu Appoints Gbajabiamila, Masari to Oversee APC National Assembly Primaries

President Bola Tinubu has taken a decisive step to ensure the integrity of the upcoming All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections, ahead of the 2027 general elections. He has mandated his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari, to provide direct presidential supervision over the process for Senate and House of Representatives seats.

This strategic appointment follows recent high-level consultations with key party figures, emphasizing a commitment to internal party democracy. Gbajabiamila and Masari are tasked with liaising closely with APC state governors, the National Working Committee (NWC), the Senate President, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Their primary objective is to foster peaceful, transparent, and credible primaries across the nation, while providing the President with regular updates.

President Tinubu has notably resisted calls to broaden the supervisory team, a move seen as a deliberate effort to prevent dilution of authority and safeguard the lawful role of the APC National Secretariat. While the NWC retains formal responsibility for organizing and conducting the primaries, Gbajabiamila and Masari will focus on political coordination, monitoring due process, and conflict management, ensuring the President's vision for a fair electoral process is upheld.
