Tractor driver and pedestrian killed in separate accidents

Two fatal traffic accidents occurred in Latvia on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of a tractor driver and a pedestrian. Authorities are investigating both incidents.

In Augšdaugava municipality's Svente parish, a collision between a truck and a tractor on highway A14 claimed the life of the tractor driver. The State Police have initiated a criminal investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this accident.

Separately, in Eleja, Jelgava municipality, a tractor driver hit a pedestrian around 11 a.m. The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. A criminal investigation has also been launched for this incident.

These accidents occurred amidst a day with 129 registered traffic accidents nationwide, which resulted in nine injuries and two fatalities. Law enforcement issued 383 administrative violation decisions, including 125 for speeding and four for aggressive driving. Additionally, four criminal proceedings were initiated for driving under the influence of alcohol.
