Tragic news: Two sisters drown while on vacation

Tragedy struck when two young sisters drowned in the Atatürk Dam Reservoir while visiting relatives in the rural Börüncek neighborhood of Siverek district. Mervenur Çakırtaş, 15, and her younger sister Edanur Çakırtaş, 12, had traveled from Istanbul for their holiday.

The incident occurred in the evening when the sisters entered the water to cool off. Shortly after, they disappeared beneath the surface. Alerted by bystanders, emergency services, including gendarmerie, health teams, AFAD, Şanlıurfa Search and Rescue (ŞUAK), and dive police units, were dispatched to the scene.

Despite extensive efforts by the rescue teams and local citizens, the bodies of the two sisters were recovered from the water. Following initial examinations at the scene, their bodies were transported to the Şanlıurfa Forensic Medicine Institute Morgue for an autopsy.

An investigation into the tragic incident has been initiated by the authorities. The community is mourning the loss of the young sisters who tragically lost their lives while seeking relief from the heat during their vacation.
