Trump backs FIFA president, calling replacement a 'terrible mistake'

Trump lauded Infantino for leading "the most successful World Cup ever," asserting that FIFA would never achieve the same level of success or profitability if Infantino were removed. This strong endorsement comes as Infantino faces significant pressure due to an investment scandal and a now-abandoned plan to sell stakes in the World Cup and other tournament rights to investors.

Despite Infantino abandoning the share-selling plan after facing backlash, the European football governing body, UEFA, has officially expressed no confidence in the FIFA chief. Leaders from European, North and Central American, and Asian football federations have intensified their pressure on Infantino, emphasizing that "football does not belong to one person."
