Two Children Drown in Former Fish Pond in Indonesia

Tragedy struck in Karawang, West Java, on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, when two young children drowned in a former fish pond. The victims, identified as RDP, 7, and AES, 6, were among five children playing near the pond in the Puri Raya Residence housing complex in Majalaya District.

According to the Head of Public Relations for the Karawang Police, Ipda Cep Wildan, three of the children were swimming in the pond while two remained on the shore. Upon receiving a report from residents, emergency services and local villagers rushed to the scene.

Despite their efforts, rescuers were only able to save one child, an 8-year-old girl, ANP. A subsequent search of the pond led to the recovery of the two boys at the bottom. Both victims were transported to Klinik Shafa Medika, where medical personnel pronounced them deceased.

This incident serves as a somber reminder of the dangers present in unsupervised or abandoned water bodies, particularly for young children. The former fish pond, now a site of profound loss, highlights the need for increased vigilance and safety measures in areas where children play.
