Two men charged in St. James with possession of criminal property after robberies

Two men in St. James, Jamaica, face charges of possession of criminal property after allegedly being involved in separate armed robbery incidents last week. The accused are Michael Stewart, 30, and Demar Atkinson, 23.

In one incident on Saturday, August 8, Atkinson and an accomplice reportedly used a firearm to rob several individuals before fleeing in a vehicle with the stolen property. Later that night, the vehicle Atkinson was traveling in was involved in a collision on the Ironshore main road. Police searched the vehicle and found bags containing items that matched the descriptions of those reported stolen. The complainants identified their property, leading to Atkinson's arrest and charge.

In a separate incident on Saturday, August 15, Stewart and an unidentified male allegedly robbed individuals at knifepoint on Jimmy Cliff Boulevard. They escaped with the victims' belongings. Following a police investigation, an operation was conducted at the last known location of some stolen iPhones. Stewart was found in possession of the stolen items and subsequently arrested and charged.

Authorities are finalizing the court dates for both Stewart and Atkinson. The charges stem from investigations into these alleged robberies and the subsequent recovery of stolen property.
