Ukraine Increases Intensity of Medium-Range Drone Attacks on Russian Forces

Ukraine is demonstrating a growing capacity to strike deep within Russian-controlled territory, significantly escalating its use of medium-range drones. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy highlighted this surge, noting that strikes beyond 20 kilometers have doubled since February, a clear indication of Kyiv's enhanced capabilities in a conflict where it is numerically outmatched.

These "middle strikes" are strategically aimed at disrupting Russian logistics, troop build-ups, and air defense systems located dozens of kilometers behind the front lines. According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, over 160 such strikes were conducted in April, targeting over 65 logistical and ammunition depots, 33 drone control points, and 17 troop command posts in both occupied Ukrainian territories and Russian border regions. The objective is clear: to degrade Russian resources, impede supply lines, and reduce the intensity of enemy bombardments and troop movements.

Beyond tactical targets, Ukraine has also directly struck Russian military-industrial complexes. This includes attacks on production facilities for high-precision weapons, such as the JSC VNIIR-Progress institute in Cheboksary, reportedly using domestically developed Flamingo cruise missiles. Additionally, a major oil refinery in Kirishi, Leningrad Oblast, was targeted, underscoring Ukraine's expanding reach and its willingness to strike critical infrastructure deep within Russia.
