UMNO Perlis to contest GE16 solo, no cooperation talks with PN

UMNO Perlis has declared it will contest the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16) independently, eschewing any cooperation agreements with other political parties, including Perikatan Nasional (PN).

There were parties who contacted me wanting to meet (for cooperation), but it's still too early, and UMNO Perlis's stance right now is to go it alone in GE16, that is the will of the party members.

State UMNO Liaison Body Chairman Datuk Rozabil Abd. Rahman stated that this decision to go solo in Perlis is driven by the majority sentiment among party members and the grassroots. He added that the ultimate decision rests with the party's highest leadership.

Rozabil confirmed that UMNO Perlis has not engaged in any discussions regarding cooperation with any party, including PN. "There were parties who contacted me wanting to meet (for cooperation), but it's still too early, and UMNO Perlis's stance right now is to go it alone in GE16, that is the will of the party members," he said.

In the context of Perlis, we have not had any discussions with any parties, including PN. Considering we did not win any seats in the last election, we are going down to do the work in all DUN and parliamentary seats.

The party intends to intensify its groundwork across all 15 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) and three parliamentary constituencies within Perlis. Rozabil noted that UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) had previously contested the Johor state election solo while cooperating with PN in Negeri Sembilan. Looking at the momentum from Johor and Negeri Sembilan, Rozabil expressed optimism that the people of Perlis would welcome BN back to govern the state. He urged the public to give UMNO another chance, acknowledging past imperfections but asserting that the current PN government differs significantly from the previous BN administration. With a new leadership team in Perlis, UMNO aims to regain its electoral footing.

We are not perfect and have weaknesses, but if you compare the current PN government, it is far different from the previous BN government. We hope the people can accept UMNO.
