Unhas Establishes Free Nutritious Meal Kitchen, Pioneering University Role in Social Programs

Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) proudly leads the way as the first university to establish and manage a free nutritious meal kitchen (MBG), demonstrating a profound commitment to societal well-being. Rector Jamaluddin Jompa highlighted that this initiative transcends mere government program support, actively expanding the university's role in creating tangible, positive impacts within the community.

The main reason the campus is directly involved is to make the MBG program a living laboratory. Through this scheme, students and lecturers can be directly involved in the production, distribution, and development of nutrition-based food innovations.

This forward-thinking project, developed through the Yayasan Metavita Akademika Nusantara, adopts a comprehensive approach, managing the entire supply chain from sourcing local products to distributing meals to schools. Unhas views this as a crucial contribution, ensuring its academic endeavors directly serve and benefit the public. The university envisions this model as a benchmark for how higher education institutions can actively participate in national social initiatives while simultaneously reinforcing practical, hands-on education.
