Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala Confers Honorary Doctorate in Social Sciences on Marcel Granier

The Universidad Francisco Marroquín (UFM) in Guatemala has bestowed its highest academic honor, a Doctor Honoris Causa in Social Sciences, upon distinguished Venezuelan journalist and media entrepreneur Marcel Granier. This significant recognition marks Granier as the first Venezuelan national to receive such an accolade from the UFM, a university renowned for its commitment to liberal principles and the defense of free markets and free expression. Granier, a prominent figure celebrated for his unwavering advocacy for press freedom, notably during his leadership of Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV) and Empresas 1BC, has earned his place among a prestigious roster of past recipients.

This distinguished list includes intellectual giants and Nobel laureates such as Mario Vargas Llosa, F. A. Hayek, Milton Friedman, and James Buchanan, underscoring the caliber of individuals honored by the UFM. Granier's inclusion is a testament to his lifelong dedication to championing freedom of the press, a cause that has faced considerable challenges in Venezuela and across Latin America.
