UPDF, South Korea Deepen Defence Ties With Focus On Medical Cooperation

Uganda and South Korea are set to deepen their defense ties, with a particular emphasis on enhancing military medical cooperation. The commitment was solidified during a meeting between Uganda's Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and South Korea's Defence Attaché to Uganda, Colonel Kim Seha.

The high-level talks, held at the Special Forces Command Headquarters, centered on strengthening the existing defense relationship between the two nations. General Muhoozi commended the South Korean Armed Forces for their professionalism and technological advancements, noting that the partnership has evolved beyond diplomatic exchanges into tangible areas of collaboration.

A significant outcome of the meeting was the agreement to expand cooperation in military healthcare. South Korea is poised to provide crucial support for the training of UPDF personnel in various medical disciplines. Colonel Kim pledged to facilitate opportunities for Ugandan officers to receive specialized medical training in areas where South Korea possesses significant expertise, such as advanced healthcare, surgical techniques, biomedical research, and battlefield medicine.

General Muhoozi also reiterated Uganda's intention to establish a permanent diplomatic mission in Seoul. He believes this move will significantly bolster bilateral ties and provide essential support for Uganda's defense modernization initiatives. Colonel Kim welcomed this proposal, recognizing its potential to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries. Both sides reaffirmed their dedication to broadening cooperation across defense, technology, and healthcare sectors.
