Utusan Malaysia photographers win gold, silver for best photos at HKM MPI-Petronas 2025

Utusan Malaysia photographers Muhammad Fariz Rusadio and Muhammad Syakir Radin Ab. Halim have clinched gold and silver, respectively, in the Best Photo category at the Malaysia Journalism Awards MPI-Petronas 2025 (HKM2025).

Muhammad Fariz earned the gold medal for his striking image capturing MotoGP rider Jorge Martin being thrown from his bike during a 2025 preseason test session at the Sepang International Circuit. His award included a trophy, a certificate of appreciation, and RM10,000 in prize money.

Muhammad Syakir's silver-winning photograph paid tribute to former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, showcasing his work in documenting significant national moments.

The HKM2026, organized by the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI), brings together the nation's top media practitioners to recognize excellence across various journalistic fields. The 2025 edition specifically celebrated outstanding work in 21 categories, covering both print and electronic media.

The awards ceremony was graced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil. Also in attendance were Abd. Wahid Idris, Director and CFO of Media Mulia Sdn. Bhd.; Aznan Bakar, Editor of Utusan Malaysia and Mingguan Malaysia; Wan Hasnan Wan Hassan, Assistant Editor of Kosmo! and Kosmo Ahad; and Aswad Yahya, Chief Photographer.
