The number of fatalities from Venezuela's devastating twin earthquakes in June has climbed to 6,301, as rescue efforts and the grim task of searching through rubble persist. National Assembly chief Jorge Rodriguez announced the updated toll, a significant increase from the previous count of 6,125.

In the state of La Guaira, the epicenter of the destruction north of Caracas, Governor Jose Alejandro Teran indicated that approximately 1,400 individuals remain unaccounted for. The powerful 7.2- and 7.5-magnitude tremors not only claimed lives but also rendered around 190 buildings unusable, leaving an estimated 24,000 people displaced and living in temporary camps.

A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck neighboring Colombia on Monday, forcing many Venezuelans to confront painful memories of their own disaster.
