Veryga supports discussion on chemical castration for pedophiles: 'It would probably help'

Ramūnas Karbauskis, leader of the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union (LVŽS), has voiced support for exploring the concept of chemical castration for sex offenders. Veryga stated that while he is not fully prepared to assess its effectiveness, he believes the measure is worth investigating.

"It is one of the measures that would probably allow us to manage some risks, but I am not ready to say how effective it is where it is applied," Veryga commented during the "ELTA savaitė" program. He suggested that if chemical castration is presented as a viable option, it implies that practices exist where it has been attempted with some success.

Veryga stressed that protecting children from sexual crimes requires employing all possible tools. He argued against relying on a single solution like a registry or imprisonment, stating that no single measure will solve the entire problem. "But if we see that as a problem, then we must apply all possible measures," he added, suggesting that even if chemical castration only addresses a fraction of the issue, it could still help protect children and is therefore worth attempting.
