Our roads are getting a much-needed facelift! The Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure, and Housing (CIV) is actively working on resurfacing 10 critical road sections across Guatemala, utilizing an emergency contracting method that allows for swift action. This approach, sanctioned by the Law of Priority Road Infrastructure, is crucial for tackling urgent repairs, especially as we head into the rainy season.

A Guatevisión team recently traversed three of these vital routes, providing a firsthand look at the progress. We documented the extensive resurfacing planned for 22.7 kilometers on CA-1 Oriente, connecting Santa Elena Barillas, and the ongoing work on CA-2 Oriente, stretching from Chiquimulilla towards Jutiapa and further towards Taxisco. These projects are essential for ensuring smoother, safer travel for all Guatemalans.

While the emergency modality speeds up execution, it's not without its challenges. One initial tender was not awarded due to non-compliance, prompting a new bidding process. However, the commitment to improving our infrastructure remains strong. José Ardón of the Chamber of Construction emphasizes the need for consistent funding to ensure these preventative measures are implemented effectively, ideally before the rainy season causes further damage. This focus on proactive infrastructure development is vital for our country's progress and the daily lives of our citizens.
