Vingegaard suffers severe crash and abandons Tour in ambulance

Danish cyclist Jonas Vingegaard has been forced to abandon the Tour de France after a serious crash during the fifteenth stage. The incident occurred approximately 20 kilometers from the finish line of the stage, which ran between Champagnole and Plateau de Solaison.

Vingegaard, a two-time winner of the Tour and a pre-race favorite for this edition, fell on a curve along with several other riders. However, the Dane appeared to suffer the most severe consequences, hitting his right shoulder hard after colliding with the curb. He remained on the asphalt for several minutes before race doctors assessed the severity of his injury.

The Visma team leader was subsequently taken from the scene in an ambulance. Vingegaard, who was in second place overall, trailing Pogacar by 4 minutes and 30 seconds, was participating in his first Tour de France where he did not finish.

The crash also involved Mexican rider Isaac del Toro of the UAE team. Further details on the condition of other involved riders were not immediately available.
