What will the weather be like in September? Meteorologists update forecast

Romania is heading into a warmer-than-usual September, according to an updated forecast from the National Meteorological Administration, or ANM. Temperatures are expected to exceed seasonal norms across most of the country during the first three weeks of the forecast period.

From August 31 to September 7, the strongest positive temperature deviations are expected in western regions. Rainfall will be below average across most of Romania, with the largest shortfall in mountainous areas.

The warmer pattern is expected to continue from September 7 to 14. ANM forecasts above-normal average temperatures in nearly all regions, again with the greatest departures in the west. Precipitation is expected to remain deficient nationwide, particularly in the mountains.

Conditions should shift somewhat during the second half of the month. Temperatures are still expected to remain above normal across the country from September 14 to 21, but rainfall should be close to average in all regions. From September 21 to 28, temperatures are forecast to be slightly above normal in western and central Romania and generally near seasonal levels elsewhere. Rainfall should be close to normal nationwide.

The forecast covers weekly departures from the 2006-2025 averages and draws on estimates from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts. ANM cautions that the product cannot forecast short-duration extreme weather events.
