Why I’m not contesting Bauchi governorship -Health minister

In a move that has garnered significant attention, Nigeria's Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate, has publicly declared his decision not to vie for the governorship of Bauchi State in the 2027 elections. This announcement, made via a video message shared on Facebook, comes despite considerable calls from residents urging him to enter the race.

I am aware of the calls by our people across the nooks and crannies for me to join the race, but this is also a time that it appears my service is needed beyond Bauchi.

Pate articulated that his choice stems from a profound sense of national duty, suggesting that his expertise and service are required beyond the confines of a single state. He emphasized that after thorough consultations with various stakeholders, including elders and youth representatives, the consensus was that his contributions could be more impactful at a national level. This perspective aligns with a broader understanding of leadership in Nigeria, where individuals with proven track records are often called upon to serve the entire nation.

There is no doubt that the people of Bauchi State have shown me great love. They have asked me to contest for the governorship position in the 2027 general elections.

Expressing deep gratitude for the unwavering support and trust shown by the people of Bauchi State, Pate assured them that his decision would not diminish his commitment to their well-being. He reiterated his dedication to advancing healthcare, fostering youth employment, and supporting vulnerable populations, promising to continue working for the betterment of the state.
