Woman, 24, killed in Piedras Blancas shooting; man, 57, injured

A young woman was killed and a man injured in a shooting incident in Montevideo's Piedras Blancas neighborhood early Wednesday morning. The 24-year-old victim died at a medical center after sustaining severe gunshot wounds, while a 57-year-old man with her was wounded in the leg.

The victims were on foot when an unidentified assailant approached them and opened fire before escaping the scene. Police responded to the incident around 5:47 a.m. at the intersection of Camino Teniente Galeano and Lorenzo Battle Pacheco. The injured man received medical attention and is reported to be out of danger.

Investigators are working to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. Forensic teams have surveyed the scene, and the case has been handed over to the 4th Turn Homicide Prosecutor's Office. The motive behind the attack remains unclear as the investigation continues.
