Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has lauded the troops of Operation Fansan Yamma for their decisive actions against bandits plaguing the state. The recent coordinated onslaught, which took place on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji Local Government Areas, resulted in the elimination of three key gang leaders and the recovery of a substantial arsenal of weapons and ammunition.

The troops of the Joint Task Force (Northwest) Operation Fansan Yamma launched an elaborate and coordinated onslaught in the early hours of Thursday, 7 May 2026, in the Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.

This success is part of a renewed military offensive that has been making significant inroads against terrorist elements. A notable operation on May 10, 2026, based on intelligence, targeted a concealed location in Tumfa Village, Shinkafi Local Government Area. Terrorist leaders had converged there to plan attacks on innocent communities. A precision airstrike by the Air Component successfully destroyed the hideout, thwarting their plans.

Following the encounter, troops effectively neutralised three gang leaders and recovered a cache of weapons and ammunition, which included an AK-47 rifle, a machine gun, a locally fabricated handgun, seven rifle magazines, and a total of 571 rounds of ammunition.
