Zimbabwe: 27 killed in head-on collision between truck and minibus

A devastating head-on collision in Zimbabwe on the evening of March 28th claimed the lives of 27 people and left 7 others injured. The accident occurred near Chivhu, approximately 140 kilometers south of the capital, Harare.

According to preliminary police investigations, a truck with foreign license plates collided head-on with a small bus while attempting to overtake. The minibus was reportedly carrying church members to a meeting. Initial reports indicate that 23 people died at the scene, with the remaining four succumbing to their injuries after being transported to the hospital.

Images from the scene showed the minibus severely damaged, reduced to a charred wreck, while the truck was found on the opposite side of the road. Zimbabwe faces a high rate of traffic accidents, often attributed to widespread problems including vehicle overloading, poor road infrastructure, and prevalent instances of dangerous driving.
