Alert Issued for Storms, Winds, and Zonda Phenomenon Across Eight Argentine Provinces

Argentina is bracing for a tumultuous weather day as the National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued a series of alerts across eight provinces for Friday, May 1st. The warnings encompass severe thunderstorms, strong winds, and the characteristic Zonda wind, signaling potential disruptions and risks to daily activities. La Nación's report highlights the severity of these forecasts, urging residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions.

The most serious warnings, orange alerts, are concentrated in parts of Corrientes province, where residents can expect strong thunderstorms, some potentially severe. These storms are predicted to bring abundant rainfall in short periods, frequent electrical activity, possible hail, and gusts exceeding 70 km/h. Accumulated rainfall could reach between 80 and 110 mm, with localized areas potentially experiencing even more. Yellow alerts for less intense but still significant storms are in place for other areas within Corrientes, as well as Chaco, Entre Ríos, Formosa, Misiones, and Santa Fe.

Beyond the storms, yellow alerts are also active for strong winds in Neuquén, with gusts potentially reaching 90 km/h, and for the Zonda wind in Mendoza, which could bring reduced visibility, sudden temperature increases, and very dry conditions. The SMN provides specific recommendations for each situation, emphasizing safety measures such as avoiding outdoor activities during the phenomena, securing objects, and driving with caution. The forecast for Buenos Aires indicates variable cloudiness with possible showers, but generally good conditions for the long weekend, contrasting with the more severe weather expected elsewhere in the country.
