Army kills three terrorists, busts drug ring in Katsina

The sustained offensive operations by troops of Sector 2 Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in Katsina State are yielding significant results in the fight against terrorism and illicit drug trade. The recent coordinated actions have led to the neutralization of three terrorists, the recovery of a substantial number of rustled livestock, and the dismantling of a drug trafficking ring, demonstrating the military's commitment to restoring peace and security in the North-West region.

During the ensuing firefight, troops neutralised three terrorists and recovered two AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines, one motorcycle, three cutlasses and assorted charms from the neutralised terrorists.

Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA, detailed how troops successfully laid an ambush for terrorists fleeing military offensives, resulting in a gun battle where three insurgents were killed. The recovery of their weapons, including AK-47 rifles, alongside motorcycles and other items, signifies a blow to the operational capacity of these criminal elements. Furthermore, the clearing of terrorist hideouts in villages like Torcachi, Giginya, and Tashar Ganji, forcing the terrorists to abandon their camps, showcases the effectiveness of the sustained military pressure.

Overwhelmed by the sustained military pressure, the terrorists abandoned their camps and fled. Troops subsequently recovered 175 rustled livestock, which are currently secured in military custody and will be handed over to the appropriate local authorities in Matazu LGA.

Beyond counter-terrorism, the operation also targeted the illicit drug trade, a known enabler of criminal activities. In a separate but coordinated effort, troops working with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) raided a suspected drug base in Malumfashi Local Government Area. This led to the arrest of six suspected drug peddlers and the seizure of various illicit substances, including cannabis and other drugs. The successful dismantling of this drug ring is crucial in disrupting the financial lifelines of criminal networks operating in the region.

The suspects and the seized narcotics have been transferred to the NDLEA Malumfashi Area Command for further investigation and prosecution.
