Brentford held by Sunderland as inactive Omar Alderete waits for more playing time

Brentford let victory slip away against Sunderland after taking the lead through Vitaly Janelt. Enzo Le Fée’s late penalty secured a 1-1 draw and extended Brentford’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

The London side had been moving toward a win that would have lifted it higher in the table on the third matchday. Despite dropping two points, Brentford stayed fifth and retained its unbeaten record.

Sunderland resisted Brentford’s early momentum before earning a late penalty. Le Fée converted from the spot to take the Black Cats into the middle of the standings, with one win, one draw and one defeat.

Paraguayan international Omar Alderete was named among Sunderland’s substitutes but did not play. He has yet to establish a regular role at the start of the season. His only league minutes came in the opening-day defeat to Ipswich Town, when he entered in the 67th minute. He then missed Sunderland’s win over Fulham and remained on the bench against Brentford.
