Bruno Fernandes hat-trick leads Manchester United to 5-2 win over Ipswich Town

Bruno Fernandes scored three goals as Manchester United secured their first Premier League victory of the 2026-27 season with a 5-2 win over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford.

Ipswich struck first in the 29th minute, when Leif Davis finished a move created by Fatawu. Manchester United levelled just before halftime after Matheus Cunha sent Fernandes through and the captain fired past Peter Scherpen.

United moved ahead seven minutes after the restart when Harry Maguire’s shot deflected off Jacob Greaves and into the Ipswich goal. Video assistant referees checked a possible handball by Maguire before allowing the goal.

Fernandes then converted a penalty after Cunha went down in the box. He completed his hat-trick in the 68th minute, reacting first after a Bryan Mbeumo shot struck an Ipswich defender. Fernandes later turned provider, setting up Mbeumo for a lob from outside the area that made it 5-1.

Ipswich added a second goal through Chuba Akpom in stoppage time. Manchester United’s win lifted them to 10th in the early table, while Ipswich moved down to 12th, with both teams on three points after two games.
