Cases Against Martinaitis and Bucevičius Over 'Receipts' Transferred to Court

The Šiauliai Regional Prosecutor's Office has transferred cases against former Akmenė District Municipality council members T. Martinaitis and S. Bucevičius to court. These individuals are accused of serious offenses involving abuse of power and document forgery during their tenure from 2019 to 2023.

According to the investigation, led by the Special Investigation Service (STT), Martinaitis and Bucevičius allegedly falsified advance expense reports, particularly concerning fuel purchases. They are suspected of using municipal funds for personal expenses, disguising them as official duties. Specifically, Martinaitis is implicated in 50 instances of claiming fuel purchases made with payment cards belonging to other individuals or companies, while Bucevičius is linked to 15 similar cases.

Prosecutors assert that through these actions, Martinaitis embezzled 1,996 euros and Bucevičius 818 euros from the Akmenė District Municipality administration. This alleged misconduct not only caused financial damage but also severely undermined the authority of public service and public confidence in the government sector. The prosecution aims to hold them accountable for their actions and restore faith in the integrity of local governance.
