Do Not Grieve: Surely Allah Is With Us

There are moments when the road ahead seems to narrow, despite every effort, prayer and plan. The future becomes a dark passage with no visible end, and fear grows not necessarily from a lack of faith, but from not knowing what tomorrow will bring.

At such times, people often want someone to promise that everything will soon be fine. The Quran offers something deeper than that kind of certainty. It teaches that even when problems remain, a person is not alone in facing them.

The article points to words spoken by the Prophet Muhammad in circumstances far removed from comfort. While being pursued and hiding in a cave, with danger visibly close, he told his companion, “Do not grieve, surely Allah is with us.” The words appear in Surah At-Tawbah, which describes Allah sending down tranquility upon him and supporting him with unseen forces.

Ibn Kathir explains the verse as a reminder of Allah’s help during the Hijra. After polytheists in Mecca planned to kill, detain or expel him, the Prophet left Mecca with Abu Bakr al-Siddiq. They took refuge in the Cave of Thawr for three days before continuing toward Medina. The setting offered no large army, fortified stronghold or armed group around them. The lesson presented is that calm can come from the conviction that divine presence remains, even when every visible place of safety has disappeared.
