Edo Police Rescue Abducted 70-Year-Old Farmer, Foil N30 Million Ransom Payment

In a significant display of operational efficiency and inter-agency cooperation, the Edo State Police Command has successfully rescued a 70-year-old farmer, Pa Jonah Owobu, who was abducted while on his way from his farm. The successful operation not only secured the safe return of the victim but also thwarted a hefty ransom demand of N30 million.

The victim, from Uwalo Oke in Uromi, Edo State, was reported missing after failing to return home. His wife's timely report to the police initiated a swift response. A joint rescue team, comprising police operatives, military personnel, local hunters, and members of the Edo State Security Corps, was immediately mobilized. Their search efforts, guided by the discovery of the victim's abandoned motorcycle and personal belongings, led them deep into the forest.

Upon locating the kidnappers' hideout, the suspects fled, abandoning their captive. Pa Jonah Owobu was found unharmed and has since been reunited with his relieved family. The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, commended the joint team for their swift and decisive action, reaffirming the command's commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state. Intensive operations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, underscoring the police's resolve to bring criminals to justice.
