EFCC seeks stronger inter-agency cooperation to fight corruption

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reiterated its call for a more cohesive approach among Nigeria's diverse security and law enforcement bodies. In a recent X post, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede stressed that the fight against corruption and financial crimes demands a united front, a sentiment echoed during a working visit to eight key agencies in Niger State.

Collaboration between the EFCC and other law enforcement agencies is indispensable in the fight against corruption, economic and financial crimes in the country. No agency can succeed working in silos.

Olukoyede, represented by ACE I Ahmed Ghali, Acting Director of the Kaduna Zonal Command, articulated that the fragmented nature of operations, where agencies work in silos, significantly hampers effectiveness. The visit included the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, and the Federal Road Safety Corps. The message was clear: synergy is not just beneficial, it is indispensable.

This push for inter-agency cooperation is vital for Nigeria's economic health and institutional integrity. By fostering better intelligence sharing and enabling joint operations, the EFCC and its partners can more effectively dismantle criminal networks and recover illicitly gained assets. The heads of the visited agencies acknowledged the common threat posed by corruption and pledged to deepen their collaboration, recognizing that collective action is the surest path to national development and security.
