Four arrested in 2.4 kg gold heist from Chinese national

Authorities in Bac Ninh province have successfully dismantled a criminal ring responsible for a brazen daylight robbery, apprehending four individuals involved in the theft of a significant quantity of gold. The operation, led by the Provincial Criminal Police Department, culminated in the arrest of Hoàng Tuấn Anh, Nguyễn Văn Điểm, Nguyễn Thanh Tùng, and Nguyễn Khánh Linh.

The investigation revealed a meticulously planned heist orchestrated by Hoàng Tuấn Anh, who had been assisting the victim, identified as Mr. W.J., a Chinese national, with selling gold in Vietnam. Seizing an opportunity during a transaction, Tuấn Anh, motivated by financial need, allegedly snatched 23 gold rings weighing 2.4 kg from Mr. W.J. before fleeing the scene.

Following the theft, Tuấn Anh, along with accomplices, attempted to liquidate the stolen assets, managing to sell 1.4 kg of gold for nearly 5.9 billion VND. A portion of the proceeds and the remaining gold were entrusted to Nguyễn Thanh Tùng for safekeeping. The investigation also uncovered Tuấn Anh's involvement in drug-related activities, including organizing drug use.

The successful recovery of the stolen gold, valued at approximately 10 billion VND, along with 2 billion VND in cash and a luxury vehicle, underscores the effectiveness of the provincial police in combating serious crime. The arrested individuals face charges including robbery, organizing illegal drug use, and receiving/concealing stolen property, with further investigations ongoing.
