Gyeongnam Fishing Villages Invite Urbanites to Experience 'Weekend Fishing Grounds'

Gyeongnam Province, in collaboration with the Gyeongnam Fishery and Return-to-Fishing Support Center, is launching an engaging initiative called 'Weekend Fishing Grounds' designed to bridge the gap between urban dwellers and coastal communities. This program, running from May 30 to August 31, invites city residents to experience the unique lifestyle and economic activities of five selected fishing villages.

The core objective of 'Weekend Fishing Grounds' is multifaceted: to invigorate the economies of these coastal areas, foster a greater connection between the population and fishing villages, and stimulate interest in the 'return-to-fishing' movement. By offering hands-on experiences, the program aims to provide a refreshing escape for urbanites while simultaneously creating new avenues for income and engagement for the local fishing communities.

Participants will have the opportunity to try their hand at activities such as collecting shellfish and using traditional fishing gear, learning directly from experienced fishermen. The program encourages team participation and offers incentives, including up to 100,000 won in support for experience and accommodation costs, for those who visit three or more villages. This initiative represents a thoughtful approach to promoting rural tourism and creating a symbiotic relationship between city and sea, offering a taste of authentic coastal life and a potential pathway for those seeking a change.
