Hail and Windstorms Wreak Havoc in Multiple Areas of Thanh Hóa

Thanh Hóa province in Vietnam is grappling with severe weather conditions, as heavy rains, hail, and strong winds have wreaked havoc across several areas. The recent downpours, particularly on April 28, have left a trail of destruction, with numerous homes and vehicles bearing the brunt of the storm's fury.

In Minh Sơn commune, the storm's intensity was evident as at least two homes lost their roofs, while the mountainous Giao An commune reported a house collapse and damage to several other residences. Beyond residential damage, the adverse weather has also led to the uprooting of trees and significant harm to crops, impacting the livelihoods of local residents.

This latest bout of severe weather is part of a concerning pattern for Thanh Hóa. Since the start of 2026, the province has already seen over 8,000 homes damaged by similar events. The frequency and intensity of these storms, including recent occurrences on April 23 and April 28, have caused considerable concern among residents and authorities alike.

The local meteorological agency has warned of continued adverse weather, citing the influence of a cold air mass compressing a low-pressure trough. Residents are bracing for potential thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind in the coming days.
