Indonesian activist attends DPR plenary session on asset forfeiture bill

Supriyono, widely known as Botok and a coordinator for the Alliance of United Pati People (AMPB), was present at the 3rd Plenary Session of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) for the 2026-2027 Sidang Masa I. The session took place at the DPR building in Jakarta.

Botok arrived at the venue around 10:00 AM WIB, accompanied by colleagues from his alliance. He was seated in the balcony overlooking the podium. Before entering the main session hall, Botok spoke with journalists, expressing his hope that the parliament would heed the concerns and aspirations of the Indonesian people, particularly those voiced during ongoing demonstrations.

"I hope the aspirations of the Indonesian people will be realized," Botok stated during a brief interview. His presence and statement highlight the engagement of civil society groups with the legislative process, particularly concerning issues of public interest.

The plenary session's agenda was substantial, featuring the presentation of the DPR's Commission III report on the progress of the Bill on Asset Forfeiture. This legislative focus aligns with planned demonstrations by protestors outside the parliament complex on the same day. Additionally, the session included discussions on the accountability report for the 2025 State Budget, government responses to factional viewpoints on the 2027 State Budget Bill, and proposed amendments to the Forestry Law.

Further items on the agenda involved reviewing the legislative program (Prolegnas) for 2025-2029 and priority bills for 2026, along with decisions on these matters. The session also covered the report on the fit and proper test results for candidates for the Head of the Strategic Mineral and Commodity Exchange Supervisory Executive at the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and the report from the DPR's Oversight Team for the 2026 Hajj Pilgrimage.
