Lagos Intensifies Safety Drive for Dispatch Riders Amidst Rising Accidents

Lagos State is taking a proactive stance to enhance road safety, particularly concerning the growing number of dispatch riders navigating the state's busy highways. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has announced a renewed focus on curbing accidents involving these riders, recognizing their integral role in the city's logistics and the potential risks they face and pose.

LASTMA's General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, highlighted the agency's commitment by stating that formal letters have been sent to union representatives of dispatch riders. This move signals a collaborative approach, aiming to foster better communication and compliance with traffic safety measures. The planned stakeholder engagement is crucial, bringing together courier service operators, riders, and relevant unions to discuss and reinforce adherence to safety regulations. The emphasis will be on encouraging riders to prioritize not only the safety of others but also their own well-being, a critical aspect given the demanding nature of their work.
