Malaysia Parliament Special Session on Tabung Haji Report Should Be Extended to Two Days, Says MP

Malaysia's Parliament is set to convene a special session on August 11 to deliberate on the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), the nation's pilgrim fund. The session, initially scheduled for a single day, is being advocated for an extension to at least two days to facilitate a more thorough examination of the RCI report.

Datuk Dr. Mohd. Radzi Jidin, the Member of Parliament for Putrajaya, has formally requested an extension of the special session. In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who also chairs the Council of the Dewan Rakyat, Mohd. Radzi emphasized the need for ample time and space for all Members of Parliament to comprehensively debate each finding, recommendation, and subsequent government action outlined in the report.

This proposal aligns with the sentiment expressed by Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who also called for adequate time for parliamentary debate. Mohd. Radzi highlighted the critical importance of the RCI report, stating that it directly impacts the interests of millions of Tabung Haji depositors and the broader Muslim community in Malaysia. He stressed that every finding and recommendation requires careful attention and appropriate explanation.

The extension is intended to enable a greater number of MPs to participate in the discussion and contribute insightful views. This, in turn, is expected to strengthen the governance, transparency, and future management of Tabung Haji. The special session was convened following the Cabinet's decision to declassify and publicly disclose the RCI report, alongside further investigations by enforcement agencies based on its findings.
