Malaysia's Formula 1 Hosting Decision Expected Sunday

Malaysia's return to the Formula 1 circuit as a host nation is anticipated, with a decision expected imminently. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim indicated that the announcement regarding the prestigious motorsport event would be made on Sunday.

The prospect of Formula 1 engines roaring again at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) appears increasingly likely. The government has reportedly received preliminary information about Malaysia's proposal to host the race, potentially replacing the Bahrain Grand Prix. Youth and Sports Minister Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari confirmed that both the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) have been briefed on the possibility.

However, all aspects of hosting the Grand Prix are still under thorough review. The KBS is engaged in comprehensive discussions to assess the suitability of the proposal before any final decision is made. Malaysia last hosted the F1 Grand Prix on October 1, 2017, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen emerging as the winner. The race was subsequently discontinued due to commercial factors and the substantial costs associated with hosting.
