Mardin: Man Attempts to Bomb Father for Inheritance

A shocking case of familial betrayal has emerged from Mardin, Turkey, where a son allegedly conspired with friends to murder his own father over inheritance. Polat E. reportedly harbored resentment towards his father, Mehmet E., and devised a deadly plan with his accomplice Abas A. The plot involved a bomb, constructed by Berkant K. and planted in Mehmet E.'s vehicle by Baran A.

Fortunately, the father's suspicion led him to discover the explosive device in a bag. He wisely removed it from his vehicle and placed it in a derelict building. Moments later, Berkant K. attempted to detonate the bomb remotely. The explosion occurred just as Mehmet E. was approaching his residence, narrowly missing him but causing significant damage.

Following the incident, a swift investigation led to the arrest and subsequent jailing of Polat E., Abas A., Baran A., and Berkant K. The indictment charges them with 'attempted intentional homicide' and 'illegal possession and transfer of dangerous substances,' seeking prison sentences ranging from 18 to 29 years. During the trial, the father, Mehmet E., stated he did not wish to press charges against his son, claiming Polat E. did not intend to kill him. Despite the father's plea, the court handed down sentences: Polat E. received 14 years and 2 months, Abas A. received 13 years and 4 months, and Baran A. received 10 years and 1 month for attempted murder, with their detention continuing. Berkant K. was sentenced to 6 years for aiding the attempted murder and was released due to time served.
