Meteorology issues alert for heavy rains and thunderstorms across eight Paraguayan departments

Asuncion, Paraguay – Paraguay's Directorate of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) has issued a severe weather alert for eight departments, warning of intense rains, strong winds, and a high likelihood of localized hail. The alert, issued Saturday evening, indicates that a severe weather system is actively moving across its coverage area.

The forecast includes moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms and wind gusts strong enough to cause damage. The DMH specifically highlighted the northern and eastern regions of the Oriental area, as well as the northern sector of the Occidental region, commonly known as the Chaco.

The eight departments affected by the alert are Concepción, San Pedro, Caaguazú, Alto Paraná, Amambay, Canindeyú, Alto Paraguay, and Boquerón. Meteorologist Celia Sanguinetti noted that precipitation is expected to concentrate in the northern part of the country on Sunday, with conditions gradually improving elsewhere. Scattered showers and occasional thunderstorms are possible across much of the country on Monday.

For Sunday, precipitation will mainly concentrate over the north of the country, with a gradual improvement of conditions. For the rest of the country, the probability of rain will be low.
